“Your mileage may vary.”
“What?”
“I said...”
“I heard you. But why are you still trying to sell me the
car? It’s totaled. And we are dead. Can’t you hear the sirens?”
“Is that what those are?”
“Yes. Lights, sirens, strange people milling about. Really strange people, come to think of it. Do you have any idea what hit us?”
“What do you mean, what hit us? I thought you ran into something.”
“Something fell on us. This car is flat as a pancake.”
“Really? Let me go have a look.”
“Are you serious? Don’t leave. You might never get back. Oh, god, he left.”
After a brief moment of silence, the sound of a helicopter overhead was soon followed by the sound of metal being sawed away.
“Wow! That’s one well-built car.”
“Let’s get these people out of here. We’ve still got life signs but they are both unconscious.”
“I think this one is still with us, just a little out of it.”
“My...my head...hurts.”
“Shh, you’re safe now. On the way to the hospital. Save your strength.”
“I’m... I’m alive?”
“Yes. Now just rest.”
“But my head hurts...”
“Fine. Let’s talk then.”
“What hit us? It just came out of nowhere. We were out for a test drive and suddenly, boom, oww, it hit and we were flat as a pancake.”
“A big fluffy pancake. You were saved by the car. The frame took the weight of the object that landed on you. Although I can’t say much for the car. Why were you out shopping for a car?”
“My last car got totaled when a meteorite tore through the
engine.”
